US, Japan huddle on UN action against North Korea

A U.S. diplomat said Tuesday that Washington and Tokyo would work together to push for punitive action from the U.N. in response to North Korea's underground nuclear test last week.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg said there were several "creative ideas that we are sharing with partners," after a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso in Tokyo. He did not elaborate.

Steinberg, who arrived Sunday to meet with Japanese officials, said that part of the purpose of his trip was to discuss ways to respond to the North's test.
